FOOD AND DRINK

Herefordshire prides itself on the quality of its fresh produce but if you don’t feel like cooking for yourself , we are well placed for great places to eat and drink.

Mortimer Country Stores, our local shop in the village, has everything one could need from store cupboard basics to those essential luxuries at competitive prices. Please support the shop, it is a community project run by volunteers – we do our best to support some of the wonderful local producers like www.lanecottageproduce.co.uk and www.ludlowtraditionalsmokehouse.com.

There are two pubs in Wigmore, a short walk from the house. The Castle Inn has a smart restaurant serving very good value food and has specials on some nights. The refurbished Oak is now a very stylish pub and restaurant serving excellent food, great wine and local beers in very friendly surroundings.

A favourite is www.suninn-leintwardine.co.uk one of the very few parlour pubs in the country – you can buy fish and chips from the chippie next door and eat them in the pub … great idea and a 10 min drive up the road.

And of course, we are just a 15 minute drive from Ludlow with its 600 listed buildings and wonderful restaurants and food shops. We recommend The Fish House -  www.thefishhouseludlow.co.uk where you can have a terrific seafood lunch – they will also prepare a takeaway platter for you to bring back for supper.

Martyn – of Ludlow Traditional Smokehouse fame – has opened a Cicchetti Bar in Broad Street – a delicious taste of Venice in Ludlow!
