Live Dealer Blackjack
Each player is basically playing a separate game based on the cards he or she is dealt and in relation to what the player thinks the dealer has. Some casinos play with up to as many as six decks, but at home one deck will do just fine. The dealer will then deal the cards to each player and to him- or herself. The dealer should be standing or sitting across from the other players and always starts the deal with the person on his or her left. Blackjack is played with a standard 52-card deck and is a very simple game that requires a certain amount of skill based on a certain amount of luck.
His book, The Shuffle Tracker’s Cookbook, mathematically analyzed the player edge available from shuffle tracking based on the actual size of the tracked slug. It makes hitting safer, since the only way of going bust is to draw a 10, and this is less likely with a 10 already in the hand. It makes the player’s 12 a worse hand to stand on . The third card is placed at right angles to signify that the player cannot receive any more cards. So, if you have made it this far, congratulations. You should have a good idea of what to expect when you sit down at a blackjack table in the casino.
After the dealer has paid you, you can remove your chips from the circle, and place your next bet. Ok this one’s an extremely rare variation which I doubt you will see in any casinos today but I thought I’d mention. If the player draws 5 cards and doesn’t bust then he/she automatically wins the hand (this is called a “Charlie”). After splitting a pair, many casinos will allow you to double-down on a two-card hand that arises as a result of the split. For example, if you split a pair of eights, and draw a 3 on the first hand, it is valuable to be able to double-down on the resulting hand of 11. When surrender is available, make sure you know the correct strategy for using it.
According to popular myth, when Vingt-Un (“Twenty-One”) was introduced into the United States , gambling houses offered bonus payouts to stimulate players’ interest. One such bonus was a ten-to-one payout if the player’s hand consisted of the ace of spades and a black jack . This hand was called a “blackjack”, and the name stuck even after the ten-to-one bonus was withdrawn.
Many casinos allow the player to double down after splitting pairs. This is a good rule for players — in fact, any rule that allows a player an option is a good one if the player knows when to take advantage of the option. Because the player hands are completed first, the players have the chance to bust before the dealer plays. And the house wins whenever the player busts, regardless of how the dealer’s hand winds up. That is the entire source of the casino’s advantage in blackjack. Because of this one edge, the casino will win more hands than the player, no matter how expert.
The method is still useful, but not without its problems. Some betting rules in blackjack games state players can only double down if their hand value totals 9, 10, or 11, and they can only double down once per round. It’s worth doubling down on almost all hands of 10 or 11 and doing so can pay dividends on many hands that contain an Ace and 2-7, but only if the dealer has a low upcard. Occasionally the dealer and a player will both have the same hand value in a blackjack game.
